CORK’S most prolific scorer Valerie Mulcahy amassed a total of 7-39 in her 10 All-Ireland final appearances. Her chosen footwear was very much a part of her playing persona. Here we take a look at her top five tallies from Croke Park.
1. 2008 V Monaghan – Adidas Copa Mundials
Valerie Mulcahy’s biggest tally in Croke Park came in the 2008 All-Ireland final against Monaghan. The same day she was awarded her second All-Ireland final Player of the Match award, having scored 3-2, including two penalties. Her third goal was a fisted ball into the back of Linda Martin’s net.
2. 2005 V Galway – Adidas F50s
In her first appearance in Croke Park, the Rockbán forward’s Adidas F50s scored a tally of 1-5, securing her the first of three senior All-Ireland final MVP accolades she’d win over the course of the next decade.
3. 2013 V Monaghan – Adidas AdiPower
In what was her eighth appearance in Croke Park since 2005, Mulcahy turned on the style wearing blue and neon yellow Predators, scoring 1-4, including four frees off the ground from her trademark left-foot.
4. 2007 V Mayo – Adidas Powerswerve
In what became Cork’s first three in-a-row in Croke Park, Mulcahy scored a tally of 2-1 wearing white and black Adidas Powersweve boots, when the Rebels defeated Cora Staunton’s Mayo 2-11 to 2-6.
5. 2014 V Dublin – Adidas LZ TRX
In Cork’s most memorable All-Ireland final win, Mulcahy scored seven points, six from play, to help Eamonn Ryan’s side come back from being 10 points down against Dublin with just 16 minutes remaining on the clock. Her performance earned her her third senior All-Ireland final MVP award, and her ninth Celtic Cross. Surprisingly, Mulcahy didn’t win an All-Star award that year, despite having also picked up the Division 1 National League final MVP earlier in the year.
